Kroger said Friday that it is buying Albertsons Cos. Inc. in a deal that values the company at $24.6 billion. The companies said Kroger would buy Albertsons for $34.10 a share, and that the deal includes the assumption of about $4.7 billion of Albertsons' debt. As part of the transaction, Albertsons would pay a special cash dividend of up to $4 billion to its shareholders. Kroger shares were down 3%, to $45.34, at 9:50 a.m. ET. Dow Jones & Co. owns Factiva.
