Too expensive. Years ago, I could go to the bar and get a Spicy Thai Chicken pizza, ask them to make it meat-free. They used something called gardein. It was delicious, and the bar charged you the same price. Nowadays, I see Beyond Meat products on the menus everywhere and they cost $2+ more than the regular pizza/burger/etc. The culinary world has become a worse place because of Beyond Meat. If I want to go meatless I need to pay more? Get real, bitches.

They sell Gardein in the grocery store where I usually shop. I agree, it's pretty good. I don't get it very often, but when I do, I usually make tacos with it. Right now, a 14-oz package is on sale for $4. Regular price $5.39. Beyond Meat is going for $7.99/lb (same store). The regular price of Gardein comes out to about $6.25/lb. I'm an omnivore, so when I buy veggie protein, I'm usually just trying to cut down on saturated fat.

That's about the price of regular meat right now. Ever since places started offering Beyond Meat (for +$2 more), they've taken away gardein. Really hate what that world has become. Even if they did offer gardein, I don't know if it would be a free substitute anymore. Just like burgers cost $8+ nowadays. Once restaurants found out they could sell at a certain price, it's not coming back. Until we get that big recession that resets everything. The good ol' economic cycle.
I'm far from vegetarian, but tried some of that gardein stuff at a party and it wasn't entirely terrible. Whereas most meat subs taste like glorified cardboard. The shares taste nicer though!
