IMAX to Use StarVR 210 Degree FOV Headset for Premium VR Film Experiences
Starbreeze, the company behind the 210 degree FOV VR headset StarVR are to work with large-scale cinema specialists IMAX to create “premium location-based VR” experiences “worthy of the IMAX brand”.

It seems IMAX, the brand known for their huge, immersive cinema experiences and high resolution cameras, are doubling down on virtual reality. We heard yesterday that the firm is to become part of Google’s 360 video platform Jump, announcing it’s to supply cameras as part of a high resolution, VR film rig.

Today, Starbreeze have announced that they are to partner with IMAX on a new initiative that aims to bring “premium” VR film experiences to public locations, all powered by Starbreeze’s high-FOV virtual reality headset headset StarVR. According to a press release, under the agreement, IMAX will create a “premium VR experience” that will leverage Starbreeze’s headset technology, StarVR, which provides a 210-degree full peripheral field of view, with the resulting experience being “worthy of the IMAX brand.”

IMAX has taken a beating from that $35 level two months ago to $26.50 today

    It's not yet a value play either (P/E>90, P/FCF>30).

I'm not surprised because there is no incentive to go out to watch a movie. We have the whole recorded history of movies at our fingertips (or at least a reasonable facsimile), which means we can watch great movies any time we want. Which means the movies that come out in the theater need to be great. In fact, theater movies are not just competing against movies of the past for our attention, but also TV shows of the present which are superb in delivering story.

Add in the price gouging tactics of movie theaters, and consumers are disincentivized to giving movies a chance. At their prices, they have to be great or the audience is a sucker that wasted money and most importantly, time.

I rarely watch movies anymore, pretty much ONLY watch TV shows. You aren't tied up as long per viewing, and you have something to look forward to the next time you pick the series back up. I only watch maybe 1 movie per month now, at most. That movie is typically in the theatres though, sometimes an IMAX.

There's a lot of volume built in above 19. If IMAX can hold 19, the current trading range should be intact and good for another bounce.

Not for the feint of heart, but IMAX down here sub-18 is, er, thought-provoking. I'm willing to sell 10 x June Puts @ 14 strike and leg into 3 x long June strike 17/19 Call spread for a slight credit. This is nothing more than a bet (in the gamblerist sense of that word) that coronavirus doesn't knock back IMAX earnings any more than about $40 million. In any case, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind owning shares of IMAX at 14 if it came to that next June.

    Are theaters dead? Maybe not.
But they will not be the premier place for movies. That honor now goes to streaming.
Of course, you've got the cavemen that want to see movies in the theater, just like the people who say they want to listen to music on vinyl. And that's fine. In fact, the only play for theaters now is as a showcase for the truly great movies. No more showing box office flops, only good movies, movies that proved themselves to a streaming audience first, will be able to show in theaters. That way the cavemen get to see their movies on the big screen, and you can have an audience that may not necessarily be bored by the movie. But theaters, at best if they play their cards right, will be the secondary place to watch movies.

Remember spending $20 for a CD, and not listening to 90% of the songs? You overpaid but you had no choice back in the day.
Then streaming came along and you had a choice, you could buy specific songs on iTunes for 99 cents, and then Spotify came and you didn't even buy songs. What music is popular nowadays?

(but there's still people buying vinyl)

Look for that history to repeat itself in the movie space. We used to spend $20 a movie, not knowing if it was good or not. Now streaming is here, and there's a ton of stuff to watch....I'm not seeing how people will watch one new movie for $20.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to go backwards. I pay 9.99 a month for Spotify which takes care of my music needs and now they toss in Hulu at no extra charge. Being an Indie and Foreign film kinda guy, I'm pretty much covered. Granted, I don't make it past the first 10 minutes of many of those films, but hey, not paying $20 upfront, so no biggie.

I remember spending $500 on a CD player, when the hourly wage was $3.50.

So you got me thinking about albums where I like most of the songs. Can't find a song that I don't like on this one.

the price stop on the red line and didn't go down.
I think the first target will be the blue line,
if the price the price go above the blue line,
then the next target will be the green line.

All Indicator lines used as dynamic support and resistance, that change reliance on the price and time.
When the price reach and meet one of the indicator, the trend stop, and
    new trend begin.
the system show the next price target at high probability(no 100%).
    IMAX:
As I wrote at 28-10-2020, the price met the Halfway indicator.
As long as the price above EMA(orange line) and above the Halfway indicator,
the target will be the High target indicator(green line).
