Franklin's lost expedition was a British voyage of Arctic exploration led by Captain Sir John Franklin that departed from England in 1845 aboard two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. A Royal Navy officer and experienced explorer, Franklin had served on three previous Arctic expeditions, the latter two as commanding officer. His fourth and last, undertaken when he was 59, was meant to traverse the last unnavigated section of the Northwest Passage. After a few early fatalities, the two ships became icebound in Victoria Strait near King William Island in the Canadian Arctic, in what is today the territory of Nunavut. The entire expedition, comprising 129 men, including Franklin, was lost.

"The Mary Ellen Carter" is a song written and first recorded by Stan Rogers, intended as an inspirational shanty about triumphing over great odds. It tells the story of a heroic effort to salvage a sunken ship, the Mary Ellen Carter, by some members of her crew.

Life During Wartime. This is the live version. From 1983! Just as good now as it was then.

@Onepoint272 those Stan Rogers submissions here are just suburb. Hat's off to ya!

Parks Canada is a co-sponsor of the Franklin Expedition excavations. During the summer of 2017 I wandered the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec, and visited two Parks Canada sites that had excellent Franklin Expedition photographic exhibits: Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse National Historic Site and Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site, both of which were excellent sites in and of themselves.

I check in often. Been focusing on my screenplay and trying to stay away from the chaos. On page 72 of 90.

Bobby Darin isn't part of the contemporary lexicon but he was as amazing at Jazz/Lounge as anyone. Great picks, Rich.

There is a ton of great music in this thread.

The thing that causes a sharp ringing in my inner ear is that people I suspect are younger have posted some music from prior generations while someone who I know to be about my age posted something I would associate with a younger demographic.

Good for us for being as interesting as a DNA swab from Amy Winehouse on any given evening in 2007.

I'll throw a squid on the ice with one of mine.

Easy to listen to. Difficult to look at. RUSH.

Le Studio, circa 1980, at the height of their musical power.

I'll park the Camaro for a moment and confess I adore this song while my wife detests it.
