Completely new to this. Never bought shares in anything. But I’d like to start buying futures in crops, oil, gas and the like. I have no idea how to start though. Which platform should I use for example?
Hello @Gold wing I use: https://tastyworks.com https://tastyworks.com/futures.html https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows...tion/episodes/from-minis-to-micros-05-10-2019 They have a decent amount of the most traded futures contracts. They also have futures micros which make it perfect for someone who is just learning to trade. Makes it a LOT cheaper to trade.
Thank you for those links! Do you know if its possible to trade weather futures on tasty works. As this is also something I would like to try?
I presume it would be best to have an account with each of these then? Using CME group for the weather and tasty works for everything else
Does Ameritrade offer futures? As I know that they have those practice accounts so I thought it might be a good idea for someone starting out to get some practice
The first thing you should do is enter the futures section of the broker, there you can see all the underlying assets that it has available and in which maturities, so you can choose which one to trade, but normally it is not the only data that is available.
Many thanks for this thread, I would appreciate an opportunity to ask about how much money I need to invest in futures
I trade the e-mini NQ, which is the Nasdaq futures. If you were looking for the cheapest way of trading the equities futures I would suggest looking at the Micro futures while you build an account and learning the nuances of trading the different markets. https://www.cmegroup.com/trading/equity-index/us-index/micro-e-mini-nasdaq-100.html
