went ahead and added a column for "spark chart" in the individual members watch list sheet to give people a little visual of the past 90 trading days, since i'm not sure there will be a way to copy & paste people's charts into the spreadsheet if they posted one. :p

also added a column for "likes it" to identify if people like the stock long or short.

did the same on the master sheet as well.

will continue tinkering around with this over time, and if you guys have any other ideas/suggestions definitely feel free to post them up in here as well.

i just want to reiterate the "rationale" aspect of this new version of stockaholics watch list.

it will be super helpful to hear why people have particular stocks on their watch list. again, my goal is to make this thread way more engaging and interactive than just simply having people come in and posting tickers. :p

Bumping this thread back to the top!

So, seeing as we've got a few of our regulars checking back in on the forums again, I thought we could finally give this thread some much needed action. :p

Personally, I thought I did a pretty bang up job on the creating the spreadsheets for this watch list idea, however, unfortunately they never did get used.

I always thought this was a good idea for the community, but I guess it never quite took off during the summer when I was attempting to set it up.

The idea of this thread was to bring members together to exchange thoughts and ideas.

Our first attempt at a watch list a few years back was pretty bland as we only had members posting their tickers that they were watching.

However, on this new attempt here, I am trying to get members add some rationale for their tickers.

If you guys have any ideas how we can make these threads interesting, fun and most importantly useful for others, let me know!

Anyway, I'm going to try my best to give this thread another attempt in there. If all fails, at least I know I tried lol. :D

    ^^ Any1? :p

So, here's an idea. I'm thinking of possibly incorporating the Google Forms idea that was first brought to my attention by @Three Eyes for the Stockaholics competitions, and maybe putting them in my Stockaholics Watch List Google Sheet template. That may work, and I assume it would make it a lot easier and fun for everyone, rather than asking everyone to post their watch lists to this thread. IDK, just thinking out loud here.

I'm going to see what I can come up with. Shouldn't be too difficult to setup since I've gotten the hang of how Google Forms work, and have already made it a fixture on the Stockaholics contests. :D

I'll report back in here if/when I got something up and I'll ask you guys to test run it for me to make sure I got everything functioning w/o any issues.

Alrighty! I think I've managed to set this up in fairly quick order. Getting the hang of Google Forms pretty nicely I might say. And it never would have been possible if @Three Eyes never mentioned it to me a few weeks back! So many Many MANY thanks goes out to him too!

OK, so here's what I got...

I setup 2 different forms for inputting members pick into my already existing watch list spreadsheet.

One master spreadsheet that lists everyone's stocks and if they like it long or short, as well as individual members spreadsheets with lots of stock data, where members can also put in a brief rationale (optional) for why a certain stock is making it on their watch list. :)

I've set it so people can submit up to 15 stocks on their watch list. Is that too few? I wasn't very sure. I think that was about what we had going a few years back when we attempted to run this in here. Anyway, yeah let me know on that. It's 15 for now but can be changed later if needed. I'm using 15 for this trial run for now.

Let's test this out shall we?

So, here is my main Google Form for submitting stocks to my master members watch list spreadsheet-

...and then here is the form members can use to submit their stocks and show up on individual sheets within the same spreadsheet. You'll notice that I'm using @Three Eyes for my test in this example. But, obviously I can add to this.

[IMG] <-- click there to submit your stocks!

For the individual members watch lists, I'll just need to know who is interested to take part in this so that I can go ahead and create an individual sheet for you. Simply posting to this thread and letting me know would do the trick. :)

Anyway, w/o getting into further ado, I'd be curious to see if I got this all working properly. :p

Seems like I'm really using Google Forms for my spreadsheets a lot lately. It's pretty amazing to me what one can do with Google Forms and Google Sheets together. :D

I guess it would help if I also included the actual spreadsheet where the Google Forms would be dumping the data to lol. Whoops my bad! :p

Ahh, I hope this works! I tried my hand at using the Three Eyes-specific form. I wanted to test it with three picks. The Form, however, is requiring all 15 picks.

So I got around the required fields feature by simply typing in "To Be Determined" and selecting "Long".

...then I went back in and edited the Form and changed Pick #4 from "To Be Determined" to MTN. It worked flawelessly.

Thanks big time for testing this out for me @Three Eyes!

Just wondering, but are you able to "edit" the form? I think adding and removing tickers should be possible no? Let me know!

Only thing is, the picks are not carrying over from the Three Eyes tab to the Master List tab.

Not sure how you would control for the "To Be Determined" selections either.

D'oh! I should probably remove the "required" part for all fields to be filled. I'll change that momentarily! Thanks for that heads up. :)

Oh that one! I'm using another form to put data into the Master list tab.

    [IMG] <-- click there!

I'll look into now and see if I can just pull your data from the Three Eyes tab instead. Pretty sure it's possible. Would probably be a lot better if I was pulling from there I guess. :p

    Ahh, okay.

Finger's crossed. Let us know when you're ready to field test again! ;)

    I think got it! :D

Spreadsheet now pulls the data from the Three Eyes tab to the master list.

    How's that lookin' now?

And just to make sure that I definitely got this working @Three Eyes could you do me a quick favor try editing your form again and either change or add something and see if it updates on the master list as well?

I also removed the "require fields to be filled".

Thanks again for helping me test all of this out!

Yes! I removed all the "To Be Determined" entries and they came off the Three Eyes and Master List tabs. Te votes ("Long") still show up because I could not deselect those. But that's a minor issue I don't think anyone would care about.

I also noticed "Three Eyes" has 11 blank entries on he Master List tab. I think since you're reading in the entire Three Eyes tab (which in turn is determined by a single Three Eyes form), we'll always have these blanks. Again, not a big problem.
