I don't know how much space there is in the space industry. SpaceX seems to be consuming all of the oxygen, and in extremely rapid fashion. For that reason, I will just watch Virgin and hope they can achieve penetration of the market.

Burt Rutan is a national treasure. I tagged him as the likely winner of the x-prize. Back then, I didn't know anything about SpaceX

If it's possible to break into this sector, Rutan and Branson will do it. If Elon didn't exist, Rutan would be the heir apparent. I'm a big fan and hope for great things from virgin galactic.

    Will be interesting to watch.
My money says it gets off the ground.

For a quarter million you can ride around in a spaceship and check out "spaceman" gravitating in a red sportster, compliments of ELON.

Here are a few of my opinions.

Blue origin is a pet project of the most wealthy man in the world. If it wasn't, it would be long dead. They started two years before SpaceX and are not in range to compete.

Jeff Bezos is an amazing individual so Blue Origin cannot be counted out. What's more, I'm cheering for them. I think Blue Origin is the least likely to succeed of the three new space companies but still has a good chance to make it.

In fact, Blue origin might have been the next great thing, were it not for SpaceX.

Virgin Galactic is operating on a relative shoestring. The budget is big but not by space standards. I have a huge amount of respect for Richard Branson and even more for.Burt Rutan.

Rutan and Branson can do this. This, being space tourism.

I don't know if we need space tourism but I think it will go beyond that. How about los los angeles to Beijing in two hours? At some point, regular airlines won't be able to compete on long haul flights. That point will be long, long in the future.

In the mean time, hyper speed travel will be brought in at the edge of space for those who can afford it.

The 800 pound gorilla in the room is SpaceX. Affectionately called "the steam roller" by competitors, they are going to drive most of the industry out of business.

Tom is like E.F. Hutton, " when he talks-money listens".

I bought a FEW shares for a speculative LONG TERM position, to start.

Time will tell, and once the HYPE dust settles from the recent stampede, the price should balance out.

Keep in mind, this being the first of its kind to go "public" creates "unchartered territory" for wall street and the company.
What do you compare it to?
    What is debt?
    What are earnings/revenue?
    Cash on hand?

    How many issued shares?
    How many "locked shares" insiders-tutes-etc.
Who owns shares? " Big players"
How many shares in the float?
    What about the warrants?

Just a few questions to start.^^^

The space race is actually just a whizzing contest between 3 very brilliant billionaires that have built top notch teams, spent TONS of money and achieved amazing results that will soon revolutionize the industry.

SPACEX leads the pack. I seriously doubt it will ever go public. Tom will probably know.

SPACEMAN is orbiting in a red TESLA roadster thumbing his nose at Richard and Jeff, " ELON STYLE" << Beat that SUCKERS!

JEFF is pissed, but focusing more on AMAZONING the entire galaxy.

RICHARD wants to fly his rocket ship to the edge of space, shoot down starman, check out earth and drink very expensive champagne in celebration of starting a space tour company that ultimately unhinges the supersonic passenger air travel industry with boeing being the silver bullet.

Just my opinion on the matter " pun intended"

    Stay tuned.

Thanks for canonizing me Slayer but I'm just a dude trying to turn a pair of nickels into 15 cents, the same as everyone else on here.

I've long thought an aircraft first stage makes a lot more sense than a rocket but there are a lot of Dynamics in play. I dismiss the idea because SpaceX are 100x smarter than I am and they think rockets from sea level to space are the way to go.

Still, aircraft technology is mature and reliable. For trans global flights, a heavy lift aircraft with monster engines (such as White Knight Two) could carry a rocket pretty close to space in perhaps 90 minutes. From there, a passenger carrying craft could be dropped over the ocean at a speed of perhaps 850 mph (speed of sound is higher at extreme altitude) where the Sonic booms aren't a problem.

Even the Concorde didn't break the sound barrier until it was over the ocean.

... And then there are the engines. Rocket engines are exclusively oblative, as far as I know. That means the surface metal evaporate to cool the nozzle and prevent melt down.

Elon seems to think a good design will be good for 100 flights. Right now, SpaceX is trying to get to 10.

This is another reason an aircraft first stage is a good idea. That, and not having to carry a heavy tank full of oxidizer is a huge bonus. Throw in not having to carry hypergolics and the mechanism to ignite a rocket, also.

A sub-orbital passenger craft should be able to have small tanks and a tiny engine with a nozzle optimized to 60 to 400 thousand foot service. It will probably be forced to use two engines, to obtain a passenger rating.

The engine and tank size will be most interesting and will determine the possible routes.

Rockets want to travel west to east, to take advantage of the rotation of the earth.

Rockets don't fly to space. Rockets fly to the edge of the atmosphere and then go as fast as they can to get to space via centrifugal force.

A plane launched rocket from London will require a lot more power and energy to get to new york than a rocket flying from New York to London. It will probably be easier for a rocket craft to get from London to new york by flying over Russia but now we're back to sonic booms over the eastern seaboard on landing.

We will learn a lot about the design if/when they announce possible flights.

For now, it will just be an orbital joyride for a quarter of a million. I'm going to open a Robin hood account with 50 bucks and see if I can hustle up the dough. :D

Elon's starship is going to have military brass lined up to get anywhere on the planet in 30 minutes but it's going to need new nozzles, at an absolute minimum, every 100 flights. How would airlines manage if they had to swap engines after every 100 flights? Virgin may have an advantage in the consumer space.

I'm going to watch SPCE with an eye to picking some up as a toy.

I'm in at $16.80 but I only grabbed 100 shares. This isn't a strategic company for us.

I only bought this as a toy and because I deeply believe in Burt Rutan and also strongly believe in Richard Branson. I'm happy to burn up on reentry with these two gentlemen, if it comes to that.

I need to dump my lousy performing Tesla shares and bulk up on Virgin Galactic. :D

This thing is taking off faster than SpaceShipTwo.

Virgin Galactic is like a mini Tesla, every day it's exploding more and more. At what level does it make sense for your hat in and jump on the bandwagon?

At least I'm up another 40% in the first couple of minutes of the market being open. I'm going to work on being happy with that. :D

The additional 40% gain, after the doubling, is entirely gone.

I'm new to trading. How do traders deal with the emotional rollercoaster?

Is this a good time to start grossly over-representing my gains when discussing with people online? :D
